If a 2T jug has been metal sleeved, can it be converted back to a nikasil plates sleeve?

2T cylinder jug
Re: 2T cylinder jug
Not really, the barrel gets bored out to a much larger size thats taken up by the thickness of the sleeve (the nikasil is very thin in comparison).
A worn steel liner doesn't necessarily need to be replaced. If oversize pistons are available you can make up for the wear over time (a simple rebore will likely be required to get the clearances / dimensions right).
The thin / hard nikasil has advantages over steel but that doesn't mean steel is no good.

Thats what I thought thanks......I know the nikasil lasts longer and wanted to restore the bike to its original condition. Will have to see if I can get another jug then......always have thr replacement sleeve if I can't

Re: 2T cylinder jug
Don't get too fixated on plating. The greatest benefit is probably to the manufacturer's cost / benefit equation. End user performance benefits are very, very small and the liners have the advantage of an extra life in case of a failure with a simple hone or rebore and piston. Come to think of it before plating was introduced I can't remember anyone I knew changing a steel lined barrel whilst they had their bikes.
A properly run liner (i.e. not run dry on oil, run without an air filter etc) will outlast most owners.
The 2 main concern are whether there are oversize pistons available and whether theperson fitting the liner knows what he's doing.
